Flint Concert Band

The Flint Concert Band is the oldest community band in Flint, Michigan.

Director Ray Maclean

2021 marks the 1st season for our new director, Ray MacLean (B. 1949) of the Flint Concert Band. Prior to this he was a member of the euphonium section for several seasons under the Baton of former director Bruce Nieuwenhuis.

Ray graduated from the University of Evansville with a bachelor's degree in music education in 1972. He has done graduate work at Michigan State University and the University of Michigan.

Being raised in The Salvation Army, music played an important part of his life for over 50 years. Through this organization, Ray was the band master of the well-known Flint Citadel Band. He has also served as The Salvation Army director of music for the state of Florida for 3 years.

For 37 years, Ray taught kindergarten through University level band and orchestra. He has also taught general music in the public schools of Davison, Flint, Grand Blanc and, North Branch. At the University of Michigan, Ray taught as an Adjunct Lecturer in Low Brass and other courses.
